Onza Picts

All this talk about onzas make me grab one of mine to try it in my new light box. The onza came out particularly well, I've always like the coin but didn't consider them to be all that much compared to some of the other series. But then, these coins sell right at spot rather than well above like a lot of the others. At any rate, the onza really blossomed in that light.

See what you think--- Click on the coin to get it to full size

Oh man, that's nice. I have only one of the newer style Libertads; I've got bunches of the older, thicker ones. And the one I have is sealed in plastic along with the 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz., and 1/10 oz. sizes (mint set). Got to get me some more of those, loose, so I can get my paws on 'em!

That's a really nice coin. I've seen the real mountains depicted in the background when I lived in Mexico City as a chap. Fond memories.

Gorgeous pics of a gorgeous coin!

And, hey - where do you find those at spot???

Tom, you find these at spot? Man, I rarely see them at all, and if I do, they carry an outrageous premium. If your Libertad source isn't a secret, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would like to know where you get 'em so cheap.

OK, OK, I make mistakes now and then. I bought 20 of the pictured coins last year on 4/6/06 for $14.50/each. Spot was slightly over $12 at the time so I stuck it in my mind that it was a relatively cheap coin. I just checked and these things are going for lunar prices. But then again, lunars were going for the $14-$15 range last year too.

Apparently the price on some of these collectible coins is going up faster than spot. Interesting that.

I gave a bunch of these things away as Christmas presents.

Nice pic, as always, Tom. The type of onza I actually like is the older one, I guess from the 80s. Here's an example:

Do you have any of these you could run through your new light box? :wavey:

I had some from the 40's many years ago (about 8 or 9 rolls). They were in original Bank of Mexico (mint) wrappers.

I hated to part with them, but my kid's were teenagers then and going to private school.

Had to set my priorities. (I do miss them though).

Maranatha,

I remember buying some Onzas from Investment Rarities over 25 years ago and they looked nothing like that.

Them's the ones I had. Cool coin too but not as nice as the one in Tom's pics.
